Oopsie

My brain doesn't work the way it used to. I blame it on having kids. Pregnancy and childbirth have been scientifically linked to the loss of brain cells. Really!

Aaaaanyway...

These are the three layouts I created with the Say Cheese kit from The Little Blue House.

I used the plastic rings in the kits as masks and sprayed over them with Maya Mist to create the background.

See the wooden camera piece? I created that patina effect by first misting it green and then pressing it onto a black stamp pad.

Fun and quick layout using the Sn@p collection from Simple Stories and layering my Instagram photos onto the printed frames.

These Maya Road banner pieces were fun to layer with papers and fabric.

I struggled with this one a bit because the "Say Cheese" title was originally a deep golden yellow and it just wasn't working for me. So I misted over it with blue to get more of a turquoise color. It was a "Make It Work Moment" in my craft room.

I've been playing with paint droplets lately. The trick is to dilute the black acrylic with a tiny bit of water to get a nice fat drop. I haven't mastered it yet, but I'm getting better.

I had some ribbon scraps left over, so I stapled them around the paper clip.

I seriously thought I'd posted these, but no. Never happened. Sorry about that. Better late than never, I guess.

Have a great weekend!

Front Porch Friday

Life's been a bit of a whirlwind for the past few weeks. The girls finished the school year and my husband and I celebrated our 10th anniversary with a trip to Hawaii. So I guess you could say it's been a little busy around here. But back to the blog...it's Front Porch Friday, and if you've come over from The Little Blue House blog, welcome!

Today I'm going to share some details on how I created this layout with the Sew Artsy Kit from Front Porch Kits:

My Granny is a quilter. I have memories of the back bedroom of her house being completely overtaken by a quilt frame for months at a time. But my favorite part was always the piecing. She'd let me help her by gathering together pieces of fabric for the blocks and securing them with a pin.

When I got my Sew Artsy Kit, I was reminded of all those vintage fabrics Granny used. So I decided to create my own quilt-pieced background.

I'd been pinning some quilting patterns on a Pinterest board, and I found this one that I thought would be easy and fun to recreate.

I started by cutting the fabric into squares. Then I folded each square in half and cut down the middle to create two triangles.

Then I placed the triangles side by side (alternating the fabrics) to create a square "pinwheel" piecing and adhered it to a piece of cardstock. Those "blocks" became the background for the left side of the layout.

It was a fun way to incorporate fabric and the idea of quilting into my layout.

If you haven't snagged a Sew Artsy kit yet, better hurry! Last I heard there were only a few left and I bet they will sell out in the next few days. And I know you'll find some fun ways to use it!

Have a great weekend!

Sew Artsy reveal

Yay! Today is the day. I can finally share the projects I've been working on with my Front Porch Kit!

Get ready for a ton of photos. But before I get to the projects, take a look at all the goodies in this fabulous kit:

That's a LOT of creative yumminess to work with, including an embroidery hoop known as Hattie the Hoop. There's also fabric, buttons, vintage sewing pattern, paint swatches, trims, and oh -- the papers! Even after I finished my four projects, I have so many leftovers that I could easily create four more.

I turned Hattie the Hoop into a clock for my craft room. I was inspired by all the different buttons, so I laid them out as the "numbers" for the clock and added a clock movement that I bought at Hobby Lobby.

My kids were so impressed (maybe even shocked) that I made a clock that actually tells time. They keep checking it to make sure that it's still going. (It is.)

I made two layouts with the kit. The first one was inspired by the pink measuring tape. I saw the "40" and it reminded me of the birthday I will be celebrating in a few short months.

I made this little arrow from a strand of black twine and the corner of a star sticker from the Jillibean Soup sticker sheet.

I covered the dressform with patterned paper and then used the rub-on sheet to add the black doodles. I finished it with a wooden flower and a fabric bow.

The second layout -- Cut from the Same Cloth -- is about Cecily and how happy she is when she gets new clothes. I really wanted to use the vintage sewing pattern, and I loved how easily it ruffles and crinkles in just the right places.

I used some of the fabrics in the kit to create a quilt-inspired piecing on the left. It adds a really different texture to the layout.

For the title, I added a little flair by cutting out on of the frames from a piece of patterned paper and layering it behind the letter stickers.

My last project was inspired by the zippers. I've been seeing all sorts of creative shapes and flowers made with zippers, but I'd never played around with them. I found that they were easy to manipulate and roll into pretty rosettes.

I added them to a canvas wristlet that I misted with Maya Mist. I sewed the blue ruffle around the flap, which I should mention was the only actually SEWING I did with the Sew Artsy kit. (My hot glue gun did get a pretty good workout, though.)

So what do you think? Are you brimming with ideas about what you could make with this kit? Well, they're limited in quantity and on sale now, so if you need it, better head over to The Little Blue House and get yours before they're gone.

Be sure to check out the Inspiration Gallery while you're there. It will be fully stocked by the end of the day today with all the projects from the design team, and let me tell you...there are some AMAZING things you will not want to miss!

Thanks for stopping by!

Another sneak peek

Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there! I hope you have a relaxing day of sweetness.

As for me, I'm looking forward to a yummy lunch with my family and then a relaxing afternoon in the park listening to a blues band while my kids burn off some energy.

As promised, here's another sneak peek of one of the projects I made with the new Sew Artsy kit from The Little Blue House.

Also, be sure to check out the blogs of the rest of the Front Porch girls -- everyone is posting peeks this weekend!

The full kit will be revealed on the Little Blue House blog on Tuesday, and I will have one more peek for you tomorrow before the big day!

A peek from the Porch

Busy week and a busier weekend ahead, but I have a quick peek to share with you.

Pre-orders for the new Front Porch Kit from The Little Blue House will start next Tuesday, May 15th! This was my first time working with a Front Porch Kit, and I was completely blown away by the variety of materials in it. I can't share too many details, but let's just say if you've ever enjoyed a visit to a fabric store, you will LOVE this kit.

So what do you think is inside a kit called "Sew Artsy?" Any ideas?

Maybe this will help.

I'll have a couple more peeks tomorrow and Monday, and the full kit will be revealed on Tuesday on The Little Blue House blog, so stay tuned!

Cleaning (and a tease!)

I've been on a cleaning kick lately. Not my house -- that's still a wreck, as usual. And my laundry...well, let's not even go there. But my craft room is getting a nice purging right now. I have way more stuff than I'll ever use, and I know there are scrappers out there who can give my things some love.

The main motivator for my purge was a local scrapbook garage sale last Saturday that I decided to join at the last possible minute (thank you, Shelley, for letting me in!). I spent a frantic two evenings throwing things into boxes, and I recruited my two best employees (Avery and Cecily) to stick on price tags. By Saturday, we were READY!

The sale went great, and I met some really wonderful scrappers that I hope to see again sometime soon. But I still came home with a lot of stuff. So once I have a chance to sort through it, there will be some giveaways a-happenin' on this blog.

Because I always work better with a schedule, I'm going to start a new feature called FRAK, which of course stands for "Friday Random Act of Kindness). And it's also fun to say. Try it: FRAK, FRAK, FRAK

See?

Be sure to check back here on Friday for the first FRAK and your chance to win a wonderful box of goodies.

In the meantime, I'll leave you with a couple of layouts. I had fun playing with the January kit from Jenni Bowlin and this fabulous Fiskars punch.

Journaling idea inspired by a layout I saw on Pinterest.

I love the pleated chiffon flowers...so soft and sweet!

And using the same kit, here's the full view of the layout I created for the Go Red feature on the Ella Publishing blog.

Hope to see you back here on Friday for the first FRAK!
